Methyl acetone, or MEK is a clear liquid with a sharp, mint-like odor. It is stable under ordinary conditions. When heated to decomposition is may form carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. It is incompatible with Oxidizing materials, caustics, amines, ammonia, strong bases, chloroform, chlorosulfonic acid, oleum, potassium-t-butoxide, heat or flame, hydrogen peroxide, and nitric acid. Uses: Solvent for nitrocellulose, acrylic and vinyl surface coatings, in rubber-based industrial cements, low-temperature bonding agents and as an azeotropic separation solvent for printing inks.
